SAN FRANCISCO PAINTOUT

"WORK IN PROGRESS" (16 x12 oil on canvas) Ref Photo
I hope Bill Guffey will accept this unfinished piece for his Virtual Paintout blog. I thought the Columbia Building would make a good painting with the complimentry colors of green and red. I am recycling an old painting hence the bull looks like he is standing on the light pole. I used a Sharpie and ball point pen to make the drawing. I then use a fixative to ensure the drawing does not bleed into the oil paint. The only paint so far is on the first floor of the building and the two poles. The rest of the color is remnants of the old painting. I will post images as I progress with this painting.

  1. Phil - I realize you are going to paint the rest of this, but I find the colors of it now quite intriguing. It seems to set a mood for the whole painting. Granted, the bull seems a bit out of place, but again, I find it all intriguing as is! - Nan

  3. Thank you both,
I too like the happy accident of the way it came out with the green and pink colors on the building, and some of the colors on the sidewalk. I will try to let some of these colors show through the finished painting.

  5. Hello Phil - I have just come across your paintings while browsing the the Virtual Paintout blog and I must say, they are really lovely. There is a certain nice solidity to your work which I find really satisfying - like the cows on Corsica, which seemed totally planted and weighty in the landscape.
